Then and Now

Those were the days, when playing in the mud,
Preparing rice in coconut shell and mud-curry,
Asking questions with round curious eyes,
Was taken in with jest and humor by the elders.....

Those were the days, when splashing mud and dirt,
Throwing balls and flying kites,
Running around the courtyard, playing hide and seek,
Had a lot of spectators from the house......

Those were the days, when interacting with nature,
Climbing mango trees, making whistles with tender mango leaves,
Making fire with wood, falling down, getting hurt,
Were all taken for granted as a part of our daily life.....

Those were the days, come holidays
And you scamper around the house with tons of energy,
Visit all your relatives, make them your friends,
Go camping to cousins places to play and enjoy......

All gone in the blink of an eye....
Yearning for it. Alas! Even the trace is gone....
The fresh breeze, flying kites, greenery,
When everything was a reality......

These are the days, when everything is virtual reality.
Children play soccer, but have never seen a soccer ball.
Schools are meant only for studying and good grades,
Everyong is losing their power of thinking.....

These are the days, when all are becoming couch potatoes,
Nature has become obsolete in our lives.
Walking to the neighbour is a hassle,
Relatives are considered a pain and your friends are your relatives.

Where have you gone? What happened to you?
The unconditional love of people.....
The caring, sharing attitude of ours.....
The practicality of our lives.....
When our intellect dominated our desires.....
When we controlled ourselves.......

Just give it a thought....don't you miss those days?

  1. I sure do miss those days.. But the best part of life is we get to relive all our moments.. Every time I spend time with a little one, I go back to my good old days and become a kid myself while with them...
Jus that I miss being amidst little ones.....
